Balanced SP beats Monrovia; Kaeff, Edwards pace Clovers

The South Putnam boys' track team won both relay events and got individual firsts from six different athletes in defeating Monrovia 69-63 on Thursday evening.

Logan Vandermark won both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races for the Eagles, while other firsts came from Timmy Parker in the 100, Michael Crossman in the 800, Joe Masters in the discus, Christian Zeffel in the high jump and Jacob Lorimer in the pole vault.

Crossman, Kiefer Vittetow and Blake Clearwaters each ran on both of the winning relay teams, while Austin Rumley was on the 4x800 team and Lorenzo Mainetti was on the 4x400 squad.

Kaeff, Edwards lead Clover track effort

Cloverdale hosted Tri-West and Cascade in a triangular high school track meet on Thursday, narrowly placing second to Cascade in the boys' meet and finishing third in the girls' meet.

Ryan Heavener helped Cloverdale to win the 4x800 relay in a triangular meet on Thursday.

Tyler Kaeff was the individual standout for the Clovers in the boys' meet, winning first in the high jump and both hurdles events.

Freshman Chelsie Edwards won the 200- and 400-meter dashes for the Clovers in the girls' meet.

CMS softball teams sweep Southmont

Cloverdale won a pair of middle school softball games from Southmont on Friday.

The Clovers won the seventh-grade game 16-6 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

"The girls were down early, but they kept playing hard and settled in. I was really proud of them," coach Tom Royse said.

Cloverdale won the eighth-grade game 19-6 and is now 4-1.

"These girls are seeing the ball really well and being aggressive with their bats," Royse said.

Seventh-grade highlights - Ashlynn Basore had a triple, single and three RBI to lead the Clovers. Emma Manion contributed two singles and two RBI, Hailey Gardner and Aubree Branigan each had a single and one RBI and Skylynn Low added two singles.

Eighth-grade highlights - Olivia Johnson had a triple, double and a single with three RBI to pace the Clovers, while Keeley Hughes had a single, double and three RBI. Taylor Royse added a double, single and two RBI, while Haley Smith had two singles, a double and two RBI; Morgan Goss had two doubles and an RBI; Macie Couch had a single and two RBI; Natasha Carter had three singles and two RBI; Jolie Hamilton had a single and two RBI.
