Older Americans Month

Sunday, May 8, 2016
Banner Graphic/Eric Bernsee With Gloria Wetnight, director of Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled, looking on, Greencastle Mayor Bill Dory signs a proclamation designating May as Older Americans Month. The proclamation notes that the City of Greencastle is "committed to raising awareness about issues facing older Americans and helping all individuals thrive in communities of their choice for as long as possible." Wetnight explained that Area 7 operates transportation and ombudsman programs, as well as providing Meals of Wheels service to homebound residents of Putnam County. Two drivers go to Brazil each Monday to pick up a week's supply of meals and return with them to serve Greencastle clients. FedEx, meanwhile, is used to deliver a three-week meal supply to homebound residents out in the county, especially in the Cloverdale and Roachdale areas, she said.
