City Police

A 26-year-old Greencastle man is facing theft charges after reportedly shoplifting items from Walmart and then posting them for sale on the Facebook yard sale site.

* At 5:06 p.m. Saturday, Logan Maybaugh was arrested at a Castlebury Apartments unit by Office Kyle Lee after Walmart officials spotted merchandise on Facebook that they knew had been stolen from their store recently.

Maybaugh was lodged in the Putnam County Jail after allegedly taking more than $700 worth of electronics items in separate incidents occurring 18 hours apart last Thursday and Friday.

Walmart asset protection personnel were unable to catch the suspect leaving the store but in investigating a series of recent thefts, discovered the Facebook page with items that matched what had recently been stolen locally.

Those items included a Garmin GPS, JBL speakers, an Extreme Mac Bluetooth speaker, JBL Bluetooth head phones, black JBL Bluetooth speakers and case, an 808 Bluetooth speaker and various chargers.

* At 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, Devin Myers, 22, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Elsiana Crosby at Bloomington Street and Veterans Memorial Highway.

Reacting to the report of a possibly impaired driver in the vicinity, Officer Crosby stopped Myers and arrested him on charges of dealing in marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Myers was also cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to 12 dispatches, two medical assists and one lift assist.

* At 11:58 p.m. on Friday, GFD performed an odor investigation in the area of Percy Julian Drive and Avenue F after receiving reports of smoke. GFD conducted a "thorough investigation" of the area (finding nothing) and returned to station at 12:41 a.m.

* At 2:06 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 905 S. College Ave. The pull-station alarm was determined to have been set off unnecessarily as nothing was found. GFD then returned to station at 2:17 a.m.

* At 5:53 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 313 E. Hanna St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 6:02 a.m.

* At 8:23 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 300 S. Warren Dr. The company responsible for installing the building's alarm system unintentionally set off the alarm during maintenance. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 8:36 a.m.

* At 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 304 S. Indiana St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 4:23 p.m.

* At 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 106 S. Spring St. GFD subsequently reset the alarm and returned to station at 5:49 p.m.

* At 9:51 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to reports of an unauthorized burn at 511 Anderson St. GFD made the owner extinguish the flames, explaining city ordinances in the process. GFD then returned to station at 9:59 a.m.

* At 11:59 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 106 Spring St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 12:08 p.m.

* At 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a motor-vehicle accident at the intersection of South Bloomington Street and Veterans Memorial Highway. GFD assisted Operation Life, reporting no injuries or hazards in the process. GFD returned to station at 12:21 p.m.

* At 3:12 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. The alarm on the third floor of the building was determined to have been set off unnecessarily as nothing was found. GFD then returned to station at 3:26 p.m.

* At 5:38 p.m. on Sunday, GFD assisted other agencies with an issue concerning a fire hydrant at 50 East St. GFD subsequently returned to station at 6:14 p.m.

* At 10:17 p.m. on Sunday, GFD assisted local law enforcement by providing a CV7 command vehicle at 1542 Bloomington St. (Putnam County Hospital). GFD was clear at 11:08 p.m.
