Wednesday forum encouraged for Roachdale residents

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

As part of the Envision Grant bestowed by the Putnam County Foundation to its Heritage Preservation Society (HPS) in 2015 for Historic District nominations, HPS is now also receiving an Endangered Places Fund grant from Indiana Landmarks for the nominations.

Because of this grant money, Phillip Gick of HPS (alongside consultant Rose Wernicke) will be conducting a public forum on the advantages of getting parts of the town of Roachdale designated as Historic Districts and listed on the National Registry for Historic Districts.

This designation has helped the city of Greencastle acquire the Stellar Community Award and tax credits for owners of certain qualified buildings. It will also help Roachdale acquire grants for building facade-renovations and other repairs.

HPS will also produce Historic District Walking Tour brochures for each historic district. Greencastle's brochures of positively impacted both educational and economic development.
