Mayberry in the Midwest

Thursday, May 19, 2016

The "Mayberry in the Midwest" festival will be this Friday through Sunday on the Courthouse Square in Danville.

Friday features a meet-and-greet with actors representing characters from the "The Andy Griffith Show" at the Hendricks County 4-H Complex as well as a dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. catered by the Mayberry Cafe. Tickets are $25.

Saturday will have a parade from 11 a.m. that leads to a free concert featuring the Tribute Artists from the show and bluegrass music from The VW Boys and local favorites like Cornfields & Crossroads. There will also be arts and crafts vendors, Opie's World Free Play Area for children and on-stage games and contests.

A basketball game between the Tribute Artists and locals like former Purdue star Travis Carroll and country music singer Levi Riggs will start at 6:30 p.m., and "Mayberry After Dark," which is "part pub crawl, part ghost walk" through Danville Downtown, will end at the Royal Theater for a comedy show by Phil Fox, "Ernest T. Bass."

Sunday will have more free stage events, vendors, Tractor Town, vintage cars, and a competition between Mayberry squad cars at 2 p.m.
