Mental Health Month

Banner Graphic/ERIC BERNSEE Greencastle Mayor Bill Dory signs a proclamation Friday afternoon announcing May as Mental Health Awareness Month. Members of Mental Health America of Putnam County (MAHCP) were present for the signing are (from left) MHAPC President Bill Nunn, board member Christina Wagner, Mayor Dory, board member Lucy Wieland and MHAPC Executive Director Karen Martoglio. The proclamation calls upon all Greencastle citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, businesses and schools in Greencastle to recommit the community to increasing awareness and understanding of mental illness, and the steps citizens can take to protect their mental health, and the need for appropriate and accessible services for all people with mental illness at all stages, and especially before Stage Four.

  • So for the last 10 days of May??? We need to focus on Mental health and better resources 365 days a year. Mental health resources in town, in the U.S. are severely lacking.

  • We kicked off our local events at the first of the month with Mental Health America of Putnam County's annual meeting (May 9th) and were not able to set up the proclamation earlier, but you are right in that more resources would be good. MHAPC strives to help in that respect, and can help direct anyone to resources in the area.
