2nd annual 'Safety Day' in preparation at Heritage Lake

Sunday, May 22, 2016

For the second year residents at Heritage Lake are encouraged to attend a day in which homeowners and businesses alike can learn what to do when emergency strikes.

Beverly Warner, of Heritage Lake, has announced Safety Day on Saturday, June 25 as part of a collaborative effort to upskill the northeastern Putnam County lake community.

"Myself and others want to help keep everyone connected and educated in the event of an emergency," Warner said.

"We're going to have helicopters, emergency teams, the Red Cross, Putnam County Operation Life," Warner explained. "There will also be propane (business owners) there to help educate on gas emergencies."

Located at the lake's community marina, Warner said the event will include several "how-to's" and "how-not's" from agencies like the Putnam County Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Heritage Lake neighborhood watch program and a makeshift, local emergency-response team, as well.

"We're hoping to expand every year to let more and more people know how to handle high-pressure situations," Warner said. "The local volunteer fire department has done a fantastic job, but due to our location we need to have the prior knowledge of what to do."

No rain date has been scheduled due to June being such a busy month, Warner added.

Safety Day will take place from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. at the Heritage Lake marina.

For more information, persons may contact Warner via phone at 765-246-4095.
