County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 2:12 p.m. on Friday, Andrew Jay Knight, 29, Terre Haute, was arrested on a warrant.

* At 8:58 p.m. on Saturday, Bryan Jeffrey Herbert, 51, Coatesville, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

* At 12:05 a.m. on Sunday, Caleb Ray Taylor, 34, Poland, was charged with public intoxication.

At 12:54 a.m. Patricia Lynn Withrow, 30, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

At 7:25 p.m. Samuel Ryan Strange, 36, Clinton, was booked in for unlawful possession of a syringe.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 11 a.m. Friday, Kevin Ryan Spurrier, 42, Poland, was arrested at the intersection of Albin Pond and Houck roads by Officer Kyle Lee.

Spurrier, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail, is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

He was arrested after GPD officers received a call about a suspicious person leaning against a fence at property along Albin Pond Road.

* At 7:21 p.m. Thursday, May 19, Edward Reeves, 20, Greencastle, was arrested for theft at the Walmart store on Indianapolis Road.

Taken into custody by Officer Brad Hiatt and lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Reeves is alleged to have taken a Gillette Fusion Pro Glide razor and a Powerbank USB charger, with a total value of $22.47.

Two recent citations were issued by city officers.

* At 8:42 a.m. Friday, Taren Proctor, 27, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Lee.

Stopped at College Avenue and Franklin Street, Proctor was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

* At 4:40 p.m. May 17, Brandy Lientz, 39, Quincy was cited by Officer Lee.

Stopped at College Avenue and Franklin Street, Lientz was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County sheriff's deputies responded to five recent property-damage accidents.

* At 10:45 p.m. Monday, Marianne S. Downing, 18, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 350 North in a 1999 Subaru Forester when a deer crossed into her path.

Downing told Deputy Riley Houghton she did not have time to brake and instead swerved to avoid the animal. The vehicle left the road and hit a concrete culvert on the south side.

The SUV came to rest down an embankment in a ditch, facing east.

Downing was transported to Hendricks Regional by Operation Life.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000. The vehicle was towed.
