Rev. Dr. E. Dean Finley

Rev. Dr. E. Dean Finley of Greencastle marked the 60th anniversary of his ordination on Friday, May 27.

Finley, born in Indianapolis and a lifetime Hoosier, graduated from Tech High School in 1946. He attended Butler University and was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, which was at that time mainly a service organization.

Along with his brother Larry Finley, Dean mowed Weir Cook Airport in 1947 when the airfield was comprised of grass.

Drafted into the Army in 1951, he served for two years. In the Fall of 1953, he entered McCormick Seminary in Chicago, where he met his future bride, Beverly Ann Ingram.

They were married in 1954. Ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Dr. Finley's first pastorate was in Ft. Morgan, Colo., followed by ministries in two churches in Ohio, two in Indiana, as well as pastorates in Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa.

Dr. Finley officially retired on June 12, 1993 after his final service in Hanover. He has continued to minister as a pulpit supply pastor to today.

Over 60 years, Dr. E. Dean Finley's ministry has touched the hearts of thousands of parishioners -- whether hospitalized, celebrating a marriage, or simply attending Sunday worship, he has provided heartfelt pastoral care.
