Tiger Cubs defeat SP 5-0 in match play

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

CLOVERDALE --Greencastle and South Putnam competed in a match play event at Clover Meadows on Tuesday, departing from the traditional stroke play format.

Players from each team were paired against each other, similar to the format of a tennis match, and the match was decided by the number of individual matchups each team won.

The Tiger Cubs emerged victorious in all five matches in the final tuneup for both teams prior to Friday's sectional at Harrison Hills in Attica.

"Match play is a different format that isn't used very often, so we thought it would be a change from the usual stroke play," Greencastle coach Steve Paquin said. "Both teams had some difficult holes and some holes that were played evenly. I think that when you change from the usual you can get some interesting results and I think that we got that."

Paquin noted that Greencastle's Jake Buis and South Putnam's Tyler Hicks had a close match. "It was a good way to end the regular season," he said.

Greencastle 5, South Putnam 0

Jake Buis (G) up 3-2 holes over Tyler Hicks (SP), Jake Bennett (G) up 14-1 over Bradley Shrader (SP), Jonah Stevens (G) up 4-2 over Collin McCallister (SP), Blaise Hasty (G) up 10-3 over Jacob Williams (SP), Jaxon Parmley (G) up 8 over Trevor Long (SP)

Next match -- GHS, South Putnam and North Putnam will play at Harrison Hills in Attica for the sectional at 9 a.m. on Friday.
