Know your freedoms, use your freedoms

Thursday, June 2, 2016

Reading on these two pages, you'll find a series of essays from Greencastle Middle School students who recently studied the Constitution -- particularly the speech and press freedoms of the First Amendment -- with Professor Jeff McCall of DePauw University.

It's a great program that GMS teacher Lori Gillespie and McCall have collaborating on these last three years. These essays are opinion pieces the students wrote after McCall modeled the process of writing an opinion piece for them.

Read through them and see the kinds of young, persuasive minds we have in this community.

As you're reading, though, let it serve as a reminder of your own consitutional freedoms.

Do you know them? Do you practice them? Would you fight for them?

This page exists as a way for you to express your First Amendment rights.

From a thank you following community events (see below) to making a stronge statement about something going on in the community, country or world, this is your forum to express an opinion and attach your name to it, just like those of us in the press.

In the politically-charged environment of a general election year, there is no better time to write to us and let your voice be heard.
