Extension Leadership program set for week of Aug. 25-Nov. 2

Sunday, June 5, 2016

Leadership is defined as the office or position of a leader, capacity to lead, and the act or instance of leading.

Putnam County is fortunate to have successful leaders. We firmly believe every resident in Putnam County has the capability to lead and enhance their leadership skills. So much so that we have designed the Purdue Extension Leadership Community Program.

The Purdue Extension Community Leadership Program is designed to empower individuals who want to make a difference in their community. Through 11 sessions participants will explore various topics that enhance professional development, personal growth, and community engagement.

Session topics include: Nature of leadership, Myers-Briggs Indicator Training, Inter-personal Communication, Personal Diversity, Becoming a Conflict Competent Leader, and much more.

Participants will also examine the educational and health of our community and have an opportunity to make an immediate impact on the county. Many local leaders will have panel discussion with program participants.

Program facilitators are individuals who have received specialized training on each topic presented. Participants enjoy unforgettable experiences and relationships that pay dividends personally and professionally.

The connections made with classmates and the interaction with top community leaders adds value to this program well before graduation. You'll walk away with a broader and deeper perspective on the county and your role in it. You'll discover issues you are passionate about by experiencing them firsthand.

Anyone working or living in Putnam County is invited to participate in the program. Face-to-face sessions will take place in various parts of Putnam County. Sessions will take place every Thursday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (lunch included), from Aug. 25-Nov. 2.

Participants who complete the program will obtain Purdue Extension certification, and have the ability to partake in the graduation celebration. There is a $300 tuition for the program that includes instructional materials, lunch and the 11 half-day sessions as well as awards.

Business that would like to be supporters of the leadership program are encouraged contact Jennifer Cannon at Purdue Extension, Putnam County for sponsorship information. Applications are found on the Purdue Extension-Putnam County website and are available for pick up in our office.
