A Greencastle man was arrested Thursday morning on several drug and traffic charges after fleeing on foot from a traffic stop.

Shortly after 10 a.m., Officer Kyle Lee initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Colonial Arms Apartments located on the corner of Illinois and Hanna Streets.

The driver, later identified as Billy Jones, exited the pickup truck and fled on foot southbound at which time Officer Lee pursued him on foot.

Lee caught Jones near Ridpath Primary School and placed him under arrest. Jones was then transported back to the scene of the traffic stop.

During the course of the investigation a black zip-up pouch was located. Inside the pouch was approximately 7 grams of a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine as well as multiple articles of paraphernalia commonly used to ingest methamphetamine including hypodermic syringes and glass pipes.

Jones was then transported to the Putnam County Jail and booked in on the charges of operating while with a suspended license with a prior, resisting law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

Assisting officers were Chief Tom Sutherlin, Capt. Chris Jones, Officer Nick Eastham and Capt. Charlene Shrewsburry of DePauw Public Safety.
