Election deadlines approach for Democrat, independent candidates

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

A pair of Thursday, June 30 deadlines will go a long way toward finalizing the ballot for the Tuesday, Nov. 8 general election.

The Democratic Party as well as independent or minor party candidates have until noon on that day to file for county office.

In the case of the Democratic party, no candidates for county office appeared on the May primary, meaning the party chairman has until the end of June to nominate a candidate.

Independent and minor party candidates have the same deadline for filing a petition of nomination with the county voter registration office for verification of petition signatures.

Currently no candidates outside the Republican Party have filed for county office.

The Republicans, on the other hand, have a full slate of candidates.

The filing period for the non-partisan positions on the Cloverdale, North Putnam and South Putnam school boards will come a bit later in the season.

School board candidates may file a petition beginning on Wednesday, July 27 continuing through noon on Friday, Aug. 26.

For more information, contact the Putnam County Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the courthouse or at 653-1538 or voterregistration.putnam@airhop.com.
