Downtown crash

A property damage accident briefly delayed traffic in downtown Greencastle Wednesday morning.

Although a report is not yet available from the Greencastle Police Department, the crash involved a Freightliner semi and a Honda crossover vehicle.

Observation at the scene indicates that both vehicles were westbound on Washington Street preparing to turn right onto northbound Jackson Street.

With the narrowness of the turn, the semi had to swing wide of the right turn lane. This left room for the passenger vehicle to get into the right turn lane.

As the semi began to turn right, its trailer collided with the left side and front of the Honda.

A complete report of the crash will be available in the Putnam Scanner section of the Friday Banner Graphic.

  • Another accident involving a semi trying to turn from Washington Street to Jackson Street. This has been happening for years; there is no room for a semi to turn....Is someone going to have to be killed before they stop allowing this????

  • I had always understood that semi's were to use Veteran's Memorial to Jackson to go north thru town. It's just too crowded to be making turns downtown on the square.

  • So a car tries to undercut a truck on US 231 and it is DePauw's fault???
