County Jail

Nineteen people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

-- At 9:16 p.m. on Tuesday, Richard Paul Bailey II, 46, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for failure to register.

-- At 6:37 p.m. Jared Anthony Pentz, 26, Fillmore, was arrested on a warrant.

-- At 6:32 p.m. Robert Joseph Hackleman III, 20, Danville, was charged with possession of paraphernalia and reckless driving.

-- At 1:50 p.m. Michael Ryan Runnells, 31, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a writ of body attachment.

-- At 1:10 p.m. Mikala Renee Jacobson, 22, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a warrant for violation of agreed release prior to sentencing.

-- At 12:40 p.m. Nicole Renee Chaszar (Hendrickson), 32, Indianapolis, was booked in for theft and false informing.

-- At 10:11 a.m. Hansi Kai Stinson, 29, Spencer, was lodged at the jail on a writ of body attachment.

-- At 4:17 a.m. on Wednesday, Scarlet Virginia Cobb, 37, Sullivan, was lodged at the jail on charges of possession of heroin, unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of paraphernalia.

-- At 12:06 p.m., Steven Russell Hornback, 42, Linton, was lodged at the jail on a warrant and nonsupport of a dependent child.

-- At 12:06 p.m., Jacob Kenneth Nees, 35, Poland, was lodged at the jail on a warrant and charges of battery.

-- At 1:57 p.m., Ricki Lynn Cline, 22, Indianapolis, was booked into the jail on a local warrant.

-- At 2:17 p.m., Matthew Allan Golden, 31, Greencastle, was booked into the jail on a local warrant and charges of criminal trespass.

-- At 2:40 p.m., Roger Richard Rayl, 48, Cloverdale, was booked into jail on charges of operating while intoxicated.

-- At 3:48 p.m., Christopher Wayne Johnson, 39, Poland, was booked into the jail on a warrant and charges of marijuana possession.

City Police

Two recent traffic citations were issued by City Police officers.

-- At 10:12 p.m. Wednesday, Johnathon Bixler, 20, Poland, was ticketed by Officer Elsiana Crosby.

Stopped on State Road 240, Bixler was cited for having an expired license plate (Feb. 21, 2016).

-- At 11:19 p.m. Tuesday, Matthew Weaver, 25, Brazil, was ticketed for speeding by Officer Brad Hiatt.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Weaver was cited for 60 mph in a 30-mph zone.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department responded to three recent accidents.

-- At 8:25 a.m. on June 16, Officer Pettit responded to a one-vehicle accident on County Road 800 South near Cloverdale.

Michelle A. Collins, 31, of Cloverdale, was headed east in a 2015 Buick Encore when she hit a deer that had run into the road. The front driver side of the vehicle was damaged.

There were no injuries, but damage was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

-- At 4:15 p.m. on June 16, Officer Pettit responded to a two-vehicle accident on County Road 725 W. near Cloverdale.

Christopher M. Phelps, 44, of Cloverdale, an employee of Endeavor Communications, said he had just finished working on a telephone box and was backing up his 2009 Ford Econoline F450 when he hit Dennis Burk, 60, of Reelsville, whom Phelps said had stopped behind him in a 1999 Chevrolet. Burk said he had been pulling up behind Phelps and didn't see him.

There were no injuries, but damage was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

-- At 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Officer Ducker responded to a two-vehicle accident on County Road 150 W. near Greencastle.

Jennifer I. Pena, 28, of Greencastle, was stopped in a 2001 Toyota Camry facing north on the single-lane bridge and waiting for a southbound car to cross. Eva M. Stark, 71, of Greencastle, was driving a 2005 GM Yukon north and did not see Pena as she took the turn and rear-ended her.

There were no injures, but damage was estimated at $2,500 to $5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to nine dispatches, two lift assists and two medical assists.

* At 12:09 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 626 E. Seminary St.

* At 11:04 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a individual locked inside a bathroom at 1152 Indianapolis Rd. GFD was unable to pick the lock and was forced to use other tools to release the individual.

* At 3:20 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a mutual-aid structure fire at 113 S. Summit St. in Bainbridge. GFD assisted the Bainbridge Fire Department with extinguishment and overhaul of the situation.

* At 9:51 p.m. on Monday, GFD assisted Greencastle Police with a motor-vehicle accident at the intersection of Percy Julian Drive and Veterans Memorial Highway. GFD assisted police with the cleanup of debris on the roadway. Depsite a a large debris field caused by the two vehicles, it was determined no patients needed medical attention. GFD subsequently returned to station.

* At 2:48 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD removed a tree from the roadway on South Elizabeth Street.

* At 12:58 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 2200 E. State Road 240. Upon arrival, GFD was met by the plant maintenance superintendent who assured the alarm was accidental due to maintenance.

* At 9:17 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a gas leak at the intersection of Indiana and Hanna streets on the campus of DePauw University. Passersby reported odor was determined to have originated from a properly functioning release valve nearby by all authorities involved (GFD, GPD and DPD).

* At 9:55 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a smoke scare at 650 Rockville Rd. A "good-intent call" was received due to smoke in the area. GFD, using a utility ladder and other investigation methods, found nothing.

* At 10:07 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 5 E. Larrabee St. A slight haze was reported in the building. However, upon arrival, GFD witnessed DePauw Maintenance on the scene who claimed it had replaced a faulty alarm-head.
