Knowling was struck by a vehicle while doing surveying work for Certified Engineering of Indianapolis with a fellow surveyor, Brian Rees, 59, Indianapolis, last week on State Road 37.

According to the accident report, Timothy Osburn, 72, of Frankton, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound when for an unknown reason the truck veered off the roadway and crashed into a 2012 Ford Escape registered to Certified Engineering. The accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the 14800 block of State Road 37.

The surveyors' car was reportedly parked on the right shoulder in order for the occupants to conduct surveying activity.

Knowling and Rees were both standing outside the vehicle at the time of the collision.

Knowling was standing outside the driver's side of the car, while Rees was on the opposite side of the vehicle when impact occurred.

The Roachdale man was initially transported by air ambulance to IU Health Methodist in critical condition.

Rees was transported initially by air ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in critical condition.

Osburn was transported by ground ambulance to St. Vincent with non-life-threatening injuries.
