July 4 safety tips

Friday, July 1, 2016

Ensure your Independence Day weekend is filled with celebration -- and not regret -- with these fire safety tips from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

-- Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them.

-- Always use fireworks with adult supervision. Sparklers alone account for a quarter of fireworks emergency room visits.

-- Keep a bucket of water handy.

-- Don't relight a malfunctioning firework. Soak it in water and throw it away.

-- Don't light a firework in a container.

-- Grill out from under branches and other overhangs.

-- Open a gas grill before lighting it.

-- Remove grease buildup in trays below a gas or propane grill.
