Small structure replacement to restrict U.S. 231 traffic just south of U.S. 36
BAINBRIDGE -- The replacement of a culvert on U.S. 231 just south of U.S. 36 is expected to restrict traffic to one lane for as long as 10 weeks.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced the small structure replacement on Tuesday morning.
According to the INDOT statement, U.S. 231 will be reduced to one 12-foot lane beginning this Friday. Traffic flow will be controlled by a signal.
The project was awarded to Morphey Construction Inc. for $799,000. Traffic will be down to one lane, possibly through Sept. 15.
The temporary traffic signal system will be more complicated than other similar jobs. With the location lying only a few hundred feet south of the U.S. 36 junction, the temporary system will be tied in to the control system for the light at the two U.S. highways.
Additionally, two driveways that lie within the controlled area will also have signals placed at their exits.
INDOT and contractor crews were already on the scene Tuesday morning, setting poles for the temporary lights as well as placing traffic sensors in the road.
