Magazine names DePauw one of top Midwest colleges and universities

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

One of five Indiana schools to make the list, DePauw University is one of the top 25 schools in the Midwest, according to a Forbes magazine post from Tuesday morning.

As part of its annual announcement of the top U.S. colleges and universities, Forbes revealed its top 25 nationally as well as regional top 25 rankings.

Trailing only Midwestern No. 1 Notre Dame (No. 13 nationally), DePauw's No. 15 ranking in the Midwest puts it ahead of fellow Hoosier institutions such as Indiana University-Bloomington (No. 19), Purdue University-West Lafayette (No. 21) and Earlham College (No. 23).

Little is noted in the entry on DePauw, aside from the Greencastle university being ranked the 117th best value college in the nation and the 18th best value in the Midwest.

More information is likely to follow when Forbes reveals the complete rankings of 660 colleges and universities Wednesday on forbes.com.

The main story of the overall top 25 notes, "Higher ed in transition is the theme of the 2016 Top Colleges ranking. What sets our calculation of the best 660 U.S. colleges and universities apart is our firm belief in ROI (return on investment).

"We look at factors that directly concern students (and their families): Are current undergrads satisfied? Is it likely I'll graduate on time or incur a ton of student debt? Will I get a good job and be a leader in my chosen profession?"

In formulating its list, Forbes partnered with the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. The math comes from the Department of Education, Payscale and the America's Leaders list, the publication's curated tally of alumni success.

Stanford University tops the overall rankings for 2016.

  • well this list just lost all credibility when it left Rose-Hulman off its top 25. Ranked the top engineering school in the nation for the past 10+ years and yet can't break Forbes top 25 regional universities?
