Manhattan Road reopens ahead of schedule

Friday, July 8, 2016

LIMEDALE -- Manhattan Road reopened Friday afternoon between Limedale and Antioch Church.

The Putnam County Highway Department announced the completion of the project late Friday afternoon, several days ahead of schedule.

The road was initially closed on Tuesday for a pipe replacement project, with county officials saying the road could be closed up to seven days. In the end, the Highway Department completed it in four, avoiding leaving it closed for the weekend.

Highway Department Supervisor Mike Ricketts told the Putnam County Commissioners on Tuesday that the county will be doing further work in the area later this year, including ditch and berm work as well as paving.

  • Yes anything done before 3pm would be considered late afternoon for the highway department

  • I drove several miles of roads in southern Putnam County today and was shocked how bad they were. Huge holes, crumbling edges, tall weeds along the sides. Looked like there had been no maintenance in years. Who is overseeing the highway department?

  • Anyone who lives in the Reelsville area...or the southwestern quarter of the county knows how bad the roads are here. You're right Ben Dover, no maintenance in years , just some occasional patching. I drive them every day, and to say they're terrible is an understatement.
