County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

* At 6:26 p.m. Joseph Douglas Kimbrew Jr., 54, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on a Shelby County warrant.

* At 3:15 p.m. Joshua Allen Sebastian, 25, Martinsville, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

* At 12:12 a.m. Steven Eugene Davis, 48, Greencastle, was booked in for operating while intoxicated-refusal, driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction and possession of paraphernalia. Davis was also wanted on a pair of warrants.

City Police

One arrest was reported early Friday by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 3:16 a.m. Friday, Gary Rogers, 46, Terre Haute, was stopped by GPD Officer Zach Rhine on Bloomington Street at East Walnut Street.

Rogers, who was subsequently lodged in the Putnam County Jail, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Rogers tested more than three times the legal limit (.08 percent) under blood-alcohol testing when the portable breathalyzer unit registered .271 percent.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County Sheriff's department personnel responded to a pair of recent property-damage accidents.

* At 9:46 p.m. on Thursday, Sheriff's department Lt. Donnie Pettit, 50, Greencastle, hit a deer as he was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe registered to the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Kyle Gibbons estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

Pettit's police vehicle had to be towed.

* At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, John C. Oversteet, 45, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 125 South in a 2000 Ford Expedition.

Deputy Jacob Harrington reported that Overstreet ran off the south side of the road. He then overcorrected, crossed the road and came to rest just north of the intersection of 500 West.

Deputies Harrington and Mike Downing arrived to find that Overstreet had fled the scene.

Several hours later, Overstreet called Putnam County Dispatch to report the accident. When he spoke to Harrington, he admitted to texting while driving.

Harrington ticketed Overstreet for texting and driving and a report is being filed with the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000. The vehicle was towed.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to two dispatches and six medical assists.

* At 2:26 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 64 N. U.S. 231. Concrete dust from nearby construction work set off the alarm unnecessarily. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 2:38 p.m.

* At 10:26 a.m. on Friday, GFD assisted the Cloverdale Fire Department with extinguishing a structure fire in the upper portions of a two-story barn at the intersection of South County Road 625 East and East County Road 1000 South. GFD returned to station at 11:59 a.m.
