Extension Office, PCH to host luncheon

Sunday, July 10, 2016

The Purdue Extension Office of Putnam County and Putnam County Hospital invite all women in the community to a complimentary luncheon at Putnam County Hospital to help kick off the Women Walk Putnam County, a walking program focused toward women.

The luncheon is scheduled for noon Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the PCH classrooms on the third floor of the hospital. A complimentary lunch, information about Women Walk Putnam County and educational speakers that will discuss healthy lifestyles and ways to stay active will top off the event.

Keynote speaker is Lillian Pfister. RSVPs are required by Friday, July 29. To RSVP, persons may call Jennifer Cannon at the Extension Office at 653-8411 or register online via the Purdue Extension website.

Women Walk Putnam County is a program geared toward senior women locally. The group will meet every Wednesday at 8 a.m. for a 30-minute walk at a new venue every week.

Goals will be set and healthy challenges will be made as the program progresses, such as steps taken per week, healthy recipe exchange and much more.

This year the Purdue Extension Signature Program Dining with Diabetes (DWD) has been added as part of the program. The educational program and cooking school will help adults with type 2 diabetes and those who want a healthy lifestyle control their blood sugar to feel better and reduce risk of health complications. You will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, easy to prepare and taste good. Recipes will be demonstrated, and participants will have the opportunity to taste each one.

Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise and how to understand common diabetes-related medical tests. Recipe and handouts will be given to each participant. While the Women Walk Putnam County program is tailored to women, we encourage community programs to register for Dining with Diabetes taking place in October. Registration for Dining with Diabetes will come closer to the program date.
