Andrew Quinn of DePauw was named the pitcher of the week by the Prospect League.

Three DePauw University baseball players are competing in the collegiate wooden bat Prospect League, and one of them was honored last week as the league's top pitcher.

Springfield's Andrew Quinn was named Pitcher of the Week by the Prospect League for the period ending July 10.

Quinn went 2-0 during the week for the Sliders. He started one game and appeared in another, threw a total of 10 1/3 innings without allowing a run. The St. Louis native allowed just three hits, walked six and struck out six. Opponents hit just .097 against Quinn during the week.

For the season, Quinn has pitched in 11 games (three as a starter) with a 2-1 record and a 2.58 ERA in 31.1 innings of work. He has struck out 20 batters and walked just 14.

Catcher Jack Wade has played in two games since joining the Sliders on July 4, and has one hit in six at-bats with one RBI.

Outfielder Jack Thompson is playing for the Chillicothe (Ohio) Paints, and ranks fifth on the team in hitting at .288. He also has eight doubles, one homer, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored.

The Prospect League has 12 franchises spanning from Missouri to Pennsylvania, and played a 60-game schedule in June and July followed by a short playoff series. The league has Indiana franchises in Terre Haute, Lafayette and Kokomo.

* Former NP coach visits trials -- Josh Willer, swim coach at North Putnam High School last year, made a trip to Omaha, Neb., recently to watch one of his former swimmers participate in the Olympic trials.

T.C. Smith swam for Willer (who was a U.S. swim coach with the Bowling Green Gators in Ohio), and also when the pair was affiliated with Star Aquatics in Greensboro, N.C.

In addition to watching Smith, Josh was quite interested in the finals of the women's 100 backstroke as another Star Aquatics swimmer he coached, Kathleen Baker, made the Olympic squad finishing in second place.

These accomplishments qualify Willer as an American Swim Coaches of America level 5 age group coach. He also qualifies as a level 5 International coach, as two of the swimmers he coached while he was with Storm Antigua Aquatics Club, made the Olympic team for Antigua.

* Another Mr. Baseball for Terre Haute -- Recent Terre Haute North graduate T.J. Collett was honored by the Indiana Baseball Coaches Association as the 2016 Mr. Baseball for the Hoosier state.

The award marks the third time in the last 11 years when a Hautean has claimed the honor. Previous winners Josh Phegley of North (2006) and A.J. Reed of Terre Haute South (2011) are both currently in the major leagues with Oakland and Houston, respectively.

Terre Haute North, Brownsburg, Jasper and McCutcheon are now tied for the most players to win the award, with two each.

Other past winners of the award were Scott Rolen of Jasper, Adam Lind of Anderson Highland, Clayton Richard of McCutcheon, Lance Lynn of Brownsburg and Tucker Barnhart of Brownsburg. All of those players have reached the major leagues.

* Neese to miss top 100 -- Cloverdale's Cooper Neese was chosen to participate in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Top 100 Underclass workout today at Ben Davis, but will be unable to attend.

Neese and his Indy Hoosiers travel team will be en route to Atlanta to participate in the Under Armour national tournament.
