Sharon Kay Whitaker Ray

Sharon Kay Whitaker Ray, 68, of Reelsville, passed away July 21, 2016 in Terre Haute, after a brief battle with cancer.

Sharon was born Feb. 16, 1948 in Brown County to the late James and Waunita Whitaker.

She was a graduate of Brown County High School and worked in housekeeping for various hotels and companies.

On July 28, 1995 she married the love of her life, Dan Ray, a marriage that would last nearly 21 years.

She loved to dance and listen to country music, especially, Loretta Lynn.

She enjoyed spending time with animals, hunting mushrooms, and being outdoors.

Sharon leaves a large and loving family, including her beloved husband, Dan; children Rodney (Mindie) and Lori Reynolds; grandchildren Tyler, Cory, Jesse, Zander, Natasha, Kayla and Courtney; great-grandchildren Davian and Aubrianah; brothers Harvey (Audra) Whitaker and David (Teresa) Whitaker; and sisters Patricia Murray, Vicki (Terry) and Debbie Whitaker.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Kurt Whitaker.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, where friends and family will gather at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 to process to Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery for graveside services.

The family encourages memorial donations be made to a local animal shelter of the donor's choice.
