Firefighter's Last Call

Sunday, July 31, 2016
Banner Graphic/ERIC BERNSEE Featuring at least a dozen pieces of fire equipment -- representing every department in Putnam Country as well as the Bellmore unit from Parke County -- a funeral process for Madison Township volunteer firefighter Joseph Biggs leaves Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle Sunday afternoon. On its way to Little Walnut Cemetery, the procession stretches out along West Walnut Street Road as the flag-draped casket containing the body of Biggs rides along atop a Madison Township truck. Biggs, 29, was fatally injured in a Wednesday afternoon accident on the U.S. 36 bridge over Raccoon Lake. He succumbed to his injuries Thursday at an Indianapolis hospital.
