Latest city street resurfacing to include Washington Street repair

Friday, August 12, 2016

The City of Greencastle has announced that on Monday, Aug. 15, the summer street resurfacing work continues on Terrace Lane.

Grady Brothers Inc., the contractor that was awarded the project by the Greencastle Board of Works, has provided the city with an updated schedule for the remainder of August.

Work will continue, weather permitting, as follows:

Aug.15 and 16 -- Terrace Lane, milling and resurfacing.

Aug. 16 and 17 -- Shadowlawn Avenue, east end, milling and resurfacing.

Aug. 22-26 -- Washington Street from Percy Julian Drive to Wood Street -- installation of underdrain, deep milling of soft spots, installation of new base and resurfacing.

Aug. 22 and 26 -- Hanna Street, Locust to Bloomington, milling and resurfacing.

Aug. 29-31 -- Calbert Way, milling, repair of soft spots, and resurfacing.

The contractor will maintain access for property owners. However, in some cases, through traffic will be limited while work is under way.

Work on Washington Street near the high school may cause some disruptions and delays. School authorities have been notified and will work with students and parents to minimize any conflicts.

The public is reminded to use caution in these construction areas. Neighborhood residents are asked to use alternate routes to avoid construction crews.

Thus far this summer, Grady Brothers has completed resurfacing work on Avenue B, the west end of Shadowlawn, Sunset Drive and Madison Street.

The contractor will be returning to adjust utility castings and to complete pavement markings as the project nears its completion date of Oct. 1.

"The city greatly appreciates the patience and understanding of the adjoining property owners and the general public while these neighborhood improvements are completed," Mayor Bill Dory said.

The work is funded by local tax dollars.
