John M. Ash

John M. Ash, age 85, of Greencastle, passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.

Born March 16, 1931 in Greencastle, he was the son of Roy and Helen (Klebusch) Ash.

A 1949 graduate of Greencastle High School, John was a United States Army veteran, having served with the 42nd Engineers.

John was employed with IBM Corp. for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He had previously worked with his family in construction.

After his retirement he worked as a timber estimator. He loved the woods, especially the planting and growing of trees, having in his lifetime, planting 16,000 trees by hand.

John was a member of the Brick Chapel United Methodist Church; Forrester Club; lifetime member of the American Legion, and member and past president of the Greencastle Alumni Association.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" (Minnick) Ash; sons Gary (Kathy) Canada and Larry (Bobbi) Canada; brother Joe (Loretta) Ash; twin brother, Gene (Shirley) Ash; grandchildren Chris (Sheilia) Canada, Debbie Canada (Bob) Williams, Gabriel (Bethany) Canada, Chad (Sandra) Canada, Zack (Kelly) Canada, and Jud (Emily) Canada; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Eddie Ash and sister Edna Cook.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16 at Brick Chapel United Methodist Church, 3547 N. U.S. 231 Greencastle.

Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of service at church.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Brick Chapel United Methodist Church.
