CVB seeking pictures from Putnam photographers

Thursday, August 18, 2016

The newly energized and reorganized Putnam County Convention & Visitor Bureau (CVB) is in search of high-quality digital photos of attractions and sights in and around the county.

The photos selected will be purchased and then featured in CVB's new tourism website, scheduled for release at the end of the year, as well as other marketing publications.

"We're looking for pictures that complement the look and feel of the proposed new tourism website," CVB Board of Directors' member Kit Newkirk explained. "We want pictures that depict places to go, activities to enjoy, destinations to visit, restaurants in which to dine and locations in which to spend a night or two."

The decision to use local area photographers for the new website was first suggested by Newkirk, and received unanimous support from the board of directors.

"While it's true that we're using an Indianapolis firm to develop a new website, we want to use local talent whenever possible," board Treasurer Michele Faison noted. "Who better knows about our many county resources than our own residents?"

A photography selection team was formed to judge all photographs considered and consists of Newkirk, Laura Hatton, Amanda Kramer, Eric Freeman and Matchbook Creative's Maris Schiess.

The team's first assignment was to view photographs that were on display during the Putnam County Fair. A number of photos were selected and photographers are being contacted to finalize the purchase arrangement. All photos (both 4-H youth and adult entries) were considered.

Jennifer Cannon, Extension educator at the Purdue Extension/Putnam County office, was excited to learn about the CVB's plans and commented, "The chance to have one of your images used for professional marketing purposes is really exciting to area photographers."

Now that the fair has concluded, the visitor bureau will begin reviewing any photographs submitted to the organization from area residents.

Submission deadlines are Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 22 and Dec. 27, 2016.

Just like at the fair, photographers whose images are selected for use will be paid $50 for each image selected. Artists will receive payment when permissions and paperwork are in order.
