County Jail

Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

* At 10:18 p.m. Brock Xavier Butler, 18, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for contempt of court.

* At 3:50 p.m. Raymond Guy Smart, 60, Noblesville, was charged with driving while intoxicated.

* At 9:24 a.m. William Nelson Judy, 58, Greencastle, was arrested on a warrant for domestic battery.

* At 5:47 a.m. Dylan Christopher Terry, 22, Coatesville, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Tuesday

* At 7:46 p.m. Jessica Marie Holsapple, 40, Cloverdale, was booked in for violation of home detention.

* At 6:26 p.m. James Means Jr., 31, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County sheriff's deputies have responded to five recent property damage crashes.

* At 7:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Ashley Nichols, 20, Brazil, was northbound on County Road 445 West approaching the intersection with U.S. 40 in a 1995 Toyota Corolla.

Deputy Matt Biggs reported that Nichols tried to cross 40 without stopping, failing to yield right-of-way. She crossed into the path of J.D. Head, 74, Avon, whose 2004 Chevrolet K1500 struck Nichols' vehicle.

Nichols then spun out of control, striking a third vehicle, a 1998 Honda Accord driven by Teri Hull, 49, Reelsville, which was stopped on 445 West, north of U.S. 40.

Nichols was transported from the scene for her injuries.

Both the Nichols and Head vehicles were towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 4 p.m. on Monday, Kylie A. Kennedy, 17, Fillmore, was westbound on Rangline Road in a 2000 Toyota Sienna.

Kennedy told Deputy Scott Ducker she had just rounded a 90-degree bend when she lost control and skidded off the right side of the road. The vehicle hit an embankment and rolled over twice as it went downhill, coming to rest on its wheels.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000. The vehicle was towed.

Capt. Tom Helmer assisted at the scene.

* At 8:10 p.m. on Sunday, Frank A. Roche, 26, Quincy, was eastbound on County road 800 West in a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the north side embankment.

Deputy Ducker reported that Roche falsely reported who was driving and fled the scene. Roche was arrested for Class A misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia and Class A misdemeanor theft. He was also cited for driving having never received a license, driving without financial responsibility, leaving the scene of an accident and speed greater than reasonable under conditions.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000. The car was towed.

* At 6:53 p.m. on Sunday, Ramona D. Adams, 58, Coatesville, was trying to make a turn onto County Road 825 East from County Road 550 North in a 2006 GMC Yukon.

Adams told Deputy Anthony Brown she was making the turn when the vehicle lost control, exiting the road and turning on its side.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000. The vehicle was towed.

* At 6:34 a.m. on Sunday, Steve E. Lee, 52, Terre Haute, was northbound on Manhattan Road from U.S. 40 in a 2003 Ford Explorer.

Lee told Deputy Virgil Lanning that due to switching shifts at work he fell asleep and ran off the left side of the road, hitting a mailbox then a utility pole.

The utility pole was broken, causing a power outage.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to three dispatches and two medical assists.

* At 3:11 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor-vehicle accident at 100 East County Road 200 South. Minor injuries were reported. GFD removed debris from the roadway and returned to station at 4:18 a.m.

* At 7:54 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to concerns of an electrical hazard at 315 S. Bloomington St. GFD investigated the area and made certain it was secure before returning to station at 8:10 p.m.

* At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD assisted a building inspector with the assessment of a property for code enforcement at 701 Main St. GFD returned to station at 10:53 a.m.
