Motel disturbance leads to pursuit, Greencastle man's drug arrest

The report of a disturbance at a Greencastle motel Saturday morning sent City Police officers to the scene to investigate an incident that led to the arrest of a local man on drug-related charges.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., city units were dispatched to the Greencastle Inn, 1233 Bloomington St.

Prior to arrival on the scene, Officer Kyle Lee noticed a truck leaving the motel parking lot that was possibly involved in the disturbance.

Officer Lee attempted to stop the driver of the truck who was later identified as Joe Person, 40, of Greencastle.

As Lee tried to stop the vehicle, Person reportedly fled, reaching speeds of 80 mph with Lee in pursuit in a chase that continued southbound on U.S. 231 past Putnam County Hospital where Deputy Matt Biggs joined in the pursuit.

The pursuit ended on U.S. 231 South at which time Person reportedly continued to resist officers. The suspect allegedly refused orders from officers which resulted in Person being tased by Deputy Biggs

During the course of investigation the following items were seized for evidence:

* Methamphetamine

* Marijuana

* Hydrocodone (schedule 2 controlled substance)

* Alprazolam (Xanax)

* Pipes commonly used to ingest spice/marijuana

* Digital scales

* A black holstered air pistol

Person was booked in at the Putnam County Jail pending a review of charges by the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office.

Assisting at the scene were Deputy Scott Ducker and Capt. Tom Helmer of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
