Rita Sharon Garrett, 76, of Cloverdale, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Rita was born June 23, 1940 to the late Bib and Grace (Elmore) Sackett.

She married Dewey Garrett on July 7, 1963.

Rita played basketball for four years at Indiana State University where she was selected as a member of the All-Decade Team.

Rita was a retired school teacher, having taught at Plymouth Schools and Cloverdale Community Schools.

She also retired from the DNR after managing Cataract Falls for years.

She was a die-hard fan of the Indiana Hoosiers and Butler Bulldogs, but she loved her Cloverdale Clovers most of all.

Rita spent many years coaching basketball, softball and track in Cloverdale.

She also served as Girl Scout leader to many.

Survivors are her husband, Dewey Garrett; son Mark Garrett and wife Wendi of Crown Point; daughter Sharon Perkins and husband Bryan of Mitchell; grandchildren Courtney Perkins, AJ Garrett, Kerry Garrett, Michael Garrett and Mary Garrett; and sisters Jeannette Sharp and Bernadine Quinnette.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bib and Grace Sackett, and her brother Leonard "Buzzy" Sackett.

Funeral services for Rita will be conducteld at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at Cloverdale United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale.
