Members of the North Putnam girls' golf team are (from left) Jadin Nunez, Taylor Dixon, Emily Eltz and Abby Simmerman.

North Putnam fielded a full, four-player team for the first time this season at Deer Creek on Thursday against Monrovia and Danville, and came within eight strokes of winning the triangular match.

Danville won with a 221, followed by Monrovia with a 224 and the Cougars with a 229.

NP coach Linda Patrick noted that Abby Simmerman played the course for the first time and carded her best score of the season.

"Starting off rather shaky, Abby managed to pull her came together and shot a strong 53, her lowest of the season," Patrick said.

The team's newest player, freshman Jadin Nunez, was able to play her first full round and shot a 72.

"With still a lot of practicing for her, she will be a tremendous scorer for Lady Cougars by the end of the season," Patrick said.

Emily Eltz carded a 53 and is starting to be more consistent, coach Patrick said.

"Shooting in the low 50s is something the team is expecting from her," Patrick added, noting that Taylor Dixon has been chasing a score of under 50 for the last three meets.

Dixon finished with a 50 for second medalist honors.

One player each from Monrovia and Danville tied for first with a 49.

"I feel this first team score shows that as a team, the Lady Cougars can be very competitive when all four are playing," Patrick said. "This meet was a good preparation for North Putnam as we head into the WIC conference meet.
