Cataract Falls among latest DNR tourism 'best of' contest

Ten waterfalls found on DNR properties -- including Cataract Falls south of Cloverdale -- are among 20 statewide listed in the latest Best of Indiana people's choice contest announced by the Indiana Office of Tourism Development.

Visitors to the IOTD website can cast up to five votes in the waterfall category and in two other categories -- Best Winery Experience and Best Music Festival.

Voting ends Oct. 28 and results will be announced Nov. 3.

"We love to celebrate everything about Honest-to-Goodness Indiana," Mark Newman, IOTD executive director, said. "This year's Best of Indiana categories allow us to showcase to travelers a sampling of the terrific outdoor recreation, agritourism destinations and culinary opportunities in Indiana."

Nominees for all three categories were recommended by members of Indiana's travel, tourism and hospitality industry.

Three waterfalls were chosen from Clifty Falls State Park- - Big Clifty Falls, Little Clifty Falls and Tunnel Falls. The park is located near Madison in southern Indiana.

Besdies Cataract Falls State Recreation Area, other DNR waterfalls on the list are at McCormick's Creek State Park, Turkey Run State Park, Spring Mill State Park, Cave River Valley Nature Preserve, Falls of the Ohio State Park and Salamonie River State Forest.
