Boy and Cub scouts alike met with Mayor Bill Dory at City Hall Tuesday to officially launch the groups’ annual fundraiser, through which the members of Greencastle Troop 99 hope to raise the means necessary to host and attend several events throughout the year.

As the group’s sole fundraiser, any and all proceeds will go toward events that members may otherwise be unable to attend -- especially summer camp, said Cub Scout Master Rob Harper.

“This is our only fundraiser that we do each year,” Harper said of the fundraiser, substantiated by the snack company Trail’s End. “More than 73 percent of sales come back to the local packs here in town.”

With approximately 100 scouts throughout the city hoping to attend camp, funds raised will need to be high.

“Summer camp can be pretty expensive,” Harper added. “So the money we make from this will go toward their attendance fees among other things.”

Boy Scout Master Tom Standers was also in attendance.

“The Boys Scouts usually attend a camp in southern Indiana,” Standers explained. “And the Cub Scouts annually attend an adventure camp north of Indianapolis.

“The money we raise usually varies, but it always sustains us through the year,” Standers continued. “We strongly encourage the boys to help provide for their troops.”

Asked from which scout Dory would buy his popcorn, the mayor gave a simple yet honest response.

“Whoever shows up at my door first,” Dory replied.
