Kallem, Wilson pace Greencastle runners

CAMBY — Greencastle’s cross country teams participated in the Golden Spike Invitational hosted by Decatur Central on Saturday.

The Tiger Cubs finished fifth in the girls’ meet and sixth in the boys’ meet, although several athletes — including all-state sophomore Emma Wilson — did not compete to be able to focus on their training for the upcoming conference and sectional events.

Shelby Kallem paced the Greencastle girls by finishing seventh in 21:32.5, while Clayton Wilson ran first for the Tiger Cubs in the boys’ meet by placing 22nd in 19:21.2.

Greencastle will host the Tiger Cub Invitational on Saturday.

Volleyball

Clovers win own JV tourney — Cloverdale hosted and won the Cloverdale Invitational junior varsity tourney on Saturday, defeating Monrovia 25-24, 25-15 in the championship match.

For the day, Cloverdale won pool A by defeating West Vigo 25-24, 19-25, 15-3 and Turkey Run 25-9, 25-10.

Monrovia won pool B, defeating Southmont 25-14, 25-21 and Owen Valley 25-15, 25-22

West Vigo took third place defeating Owen Valley 25-23, 17-25, 15-12

Overall stats for Cloverdale:

Kiley Shedron leading with 39 points and 8 kills.

Kacey Shedron had 25 points and 15 assists.

Kayla Perdue had 22 points and 10 kills.

AnneMarie Williams had 17 points, 15 kills, 4 blocks.

Eighth-grade Clovers busy — Cloverdale’s eighth-grade team lost 19-25 and 11-25 to Cascade on Thursday.

Leading server for the Clovers was Tiffany Wainscot with 8 points.

The Clovers lost two hard-fought matches on Saturday at the Clover Invitational.

Dropping two sets to be defeated by Tri-West, the Clovers struggled to get serves across the net, coach Katie Mosley said.

”Serving was much improved in the second match,” Mosley said. “After some adjustments from the match against Tri-West, the Clovers showed great heart and resiliency.”

Despite the improved performance, the Clovers lost again to Cascade in two sets by scores of 14-25 and 23-25.

Leading from the service line for CMS was Autumn Lewellen with 15.

Soccer

Cougars second in WIC West — Two days after suffering their first defeat of the season, North Putnam’s girls’ team won a 3-2 decision at Northview on Saturday to clinch second place in the Western Indiana Conference’s West Division.

The Cougars (8-1 overall, 3-1 in WIC) lost to Sullivan 5-1 on Thursday night in a divisional match, and will play Saturday on the road in the WIC third-place crossover match.

In boys’ action, Northview defeated North Putnam 6-0 on Saturday.

Sullivan (girls) 3, Greencastle 1 — The Arrows wrapped up the WIC West Division with the victory on Saturday.
