Friendship Day

Sunday, September 18, 2016
Greencastle Mayor Bill Dory (seated left) signs a proclamation designating Wednesday, Sept. 21 as Friendship Day, in which members of the community are encouraged to get a dozen free roses and pass out 11 of them to family, friends and strangers. Sponsors include Jenny Sullvan of Eitel’s, Brian Cox of the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, Brooke Trissel of Mill Pond Health Campus, Rhonda Brotherton of the Putnam Inn and (not pictured) Bittles and Hurt and Hopkins Rector Funeral Homes, First National Bank, Asbury Towers and Duke Energy. The dozen roses will be available beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday at all sponsor locations except for Duke, which sponsors the event but does not host a pick-up site. Organizers ask that participants bring canned good for the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry when picking up roses.
