Free admission to state parks Sept. 24

In honor or National Public Lands Day, admission to state park properties and state forest recreation areas will be free on Sept. 24.

“During this year of our Indiana State Parks Centennial Celebration, we have provided several opportunities for Hoosiers to visit our state parks and reservoirs at free or reduced cost so they can appreciate the state’s natural resources and history,” Dan Bortner, director of Indiana State Parks, said. “National Public Lands Day is a great fit for this effort.”

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort, which include lake cleanups, trail work and gardening, for public lands. There will also be volunteer opportunities on Sept. 25.

The day serves as a reminder that public lands are places for outdoor recreation, conservation and making memories with family and friends. Properties will offer hikes, pioneer activities, crafts and live bird shows. More information about activities is available at stateparks.IN.gov or by calling the property you wish to visit.
