Trae Carrington is a senior multi-sport athlete for Greencastle. He was a regional qualifier in wrestling last winter, and plays linebacker and on special teams for the undefeated Tiger Cubs in football.

Banner Graphic: “What is your role on the football team?”

Trae Carrington: “I play mostly defense, and my job is to make other people look good. I take on the lead blocks a lot, and I turn the play back inside. I get some tackles here and there, but I just do my job to turn the ball carrier inside.”

BG: “Is it tough to do that not being very big (5-5, 155 pounds)?”

TC: “Sometimes, but you have to be aggressive and have the mindset that you are the biggest guy out there. My dad has always told me that dynamite comes in small packages. You go out and play as hard as you can, and you’ll get it done.”

BG: “How long have you played football?”

TC: “Since third grade.”

BG: “You are listed on the roster as a running back as well as a linebacker, and there are two outstanding running backs ahead of you (Devin Clar and Derek Ummel). Does that make it tough for you to get to carry the ball?”

TC: “Offense has never been my thing. I have run the ball before, but defense has kind of been my specialty.”

BG: “How do you think the season has gone so far?”

TC: “It’s gone really good. We have worked hard, and we have paid our dues. We are here to collect.”

BG: “Do you play any other sports?”

TC: “I am a wrestler. I wrestled at 138 pounds last year, and made it to regionals and I lost there. I lost five matches last year.”

BG: “What other things do you like to do?”

TC: “I am a big hunter and fisherman. We have some property and a pond with some land. I’m big into those. I’m really competitive, and like anything like that. I have a dirt bike. Me and a few friends just started a club for fishing to get into tournaments next spring.”

BG: “What other other interests do you have?”

TC: “I’m a country boy, and I like to listen to country music. I like to watch old Westerns with my dad.”

BG: “What is your favorite school subject?”

TC: “I love history. I love learning about our past and how we came up, and comparing our lives now to back then.”

BG: “What are you planning do to after high school?”

TC: “I would like to be in the military. I’ve had a dream of being a Navy SEAL for a long time. I want to do some good. They killed Bin Laden, so they are the best of the best. I like the challenge part. Being a wrestler, I never back down from a challenge. Being a Navy SEAL you are always doing stuff and don’t just sit around.”
