Greencastle (5-0, 2-0) at Sullivan (4-1, 2-0)

Game time: 7 p.m.

Media coverage: WNDI-FM 95.3 will be broadcasting the game.

The coaches: Mike Meyer is in his seventh year at Greencastle. Trent Olson is in his 10th year at Sullivan.

Last week: Greencastle won 31-13 at Cascade, while Sullivan won 70-6 at South Vermillion.

History: Sullivan won 59-6 last year in the only meeting between the teams in the last 20 years. The teams played a high-scoring sectional game in the late 1980s.

WIC impact: The teams are tied for first place in the West Division, and the winner will be in sole possession of the lead.

Key players: Greencastle’s Devin Clar is the state’s 11th-leading rusher with 175.6 yards per game. He has scored 12 touchdowns.

Sullivan quarterback Trey Powell has thrown for more than 1,500 yards this year with 15 touchdown passes and only three interceptions.

Coach Meyer on his team: “We’ve been talking as a staff and a team that a big key is that we are not sure we’ve had our best game yet. I don’t think we overlooked Cascade last week, but we didn’t play as well as we can. We are healthy and we’re feeling pretty good right now. We are excited for [tonight.]”

Coach Meyer on Sullivan: “They throw it a lot more than anybody we’ve played, and [Powell] gets rid of it very quickly. One thing that stands out is his ability to get rid of the football, and he doesn’t take long to make decisions. They obviously have a pretty good offensive line. Pressure is a big part of our game plan any way, and we’re going to have to be solid and make tackles. They have about two or three guys they can get the ball to, and they are all very athletic.”

North Putnam (4-1, 1-1) at Northview (3-2, 1-1)

Game time: 7 p.m.

Media coverage: The Fan (1130 AM, 99.5 FM) will be broadcasting the game.

The coaches: Greg Barrett is in his eighth year at North Putnam. Mark Raetz is in his fourth year at Northview.

Last week: Both teams recorded shutouts as North Putnam defeated Cloverdale 55-0, and Northview topped Owen Valley 14-0.

History: This is believed to be the first-ever football game between the two schools.

WIC impact: The teams are tied for third place in the West Division at 1-1, and the winner will move into a second-place tie with the Sullivan-Greencastle loser.

Key players: The Cougars utilize a deep corps of running backs, including senior Solomon Gross and juniors Gage Bell and Ethan Christy.

Northview is led by running backs M.J. Shelton and Dylan Hyatt. Shelton has run for 467 yards, averaging 6.1 yards per carry, and has scored five touchdowns.

Hyatt has 395 yards, averaging 5.7 yards per carry, and has four touchdowns. Hyatt has also caught six passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns.

Coach Barrett on his team: “Last week went better than I thought it would go. We played a lot faster and more physical. We have to be disciplined. If our team is not disciplined, we are not going do do the things we need to do — staying on our blocks, being where we need to be, communicating up front. Our quarterback play has to be good.”

Coach Barrett on Northview: “They do a lot of stunts and twists up front. We have to be able to handle that. They have a good two-back system and a pretty good quarterback. Up front, they are extremely well-coached and do a great job.”

West Vigo (3-2, 0-2) at South Putnam (3-2, 0-2)

Game time: 7 p.m.

Media coverage: WREB-FM 94.3 will be broadcasting the game.

The coaches: Nathan Aker is in his third year at South Putnam. Jeff Cobb is in his 12th year at West Vigo.

Last week: South Putnam defeated Edgewood 45-13, while West Vigo routed North Daviess 59-0.

History: South Putnam won 22-16 last year in West Terre Haute in the teams’ only recent contest.

WIC impact: The teams are tied for fifth in the West Division at 0-2, and the winner will move into a fourth-place tie with the Northview-North Putnam loser.

Key players: West Vigo is led by quarterback Jake Lautenschlager and running back Jarret McCallister.

SP’s Kyle Shaffer is the ninth-ranked rusher in the state with 178.8 yards per carry, and has scored 11 touchdowns. He had 331 yards last week, and also leads the team in tackles with 54 from his linebacker position.

Coach Aker on his team: “I really like how our young men came out to compete from the opening kickoff last week. We will need that four-quarter focus again this week as we continue to work to improve through this WIC West section of our schedule. We had a tremendous atmosphere at Wildman Field last week. Our guys really thrived in that environment and we look forward to another large crowd.”

Coach Aker on his team: “We are looking forward to this matchup. They are a very talented football team with dynamic backs and receivers. They have an excellent line of scrimmage on both offense and defense. Both teams will look to control the clock by possessing the football and moving the chains.”

Brown County (1-4, 0-2) at Cloverdale (2-3, 2-0)

Game time: 7 p.m.

Media coverage: WGRE-FM 91.5 will be broadcasting the game.

The coaches: Tony Meyer is in his second year at Cloverdale. Randy Minniear is in his first year at Brown County.

Last week: Cloverdale lost 55-0 at North Putnam, while Brown County lost 14-10 to the Southside Home School.

History: Brown County won 39-28 last year, but forfeited the game due to using an ineligible player. In the previous five seasons, Brown County holds a 3-2 advantage.

WIC impact: The Clovers are tied for first place in the East Division at 2-0, while Brown County is 0-2 and tied for fifth place.

Coach Meyer on his team: “We lost Drew Boyette last week. He broke a bone in his other hand. That hurts us. We have had some other kids go home sick from school. We are changing the offense up. Same basic concept, but new formations. We are trying to keep the ball with more sure-handed rushers, and bring the passing game a little shorter. The attitude of the kids is good. When they walk up against a brick wall, they know how good North Putnam is. That was another buzzsaw. The guys have everything in perspective, and the most important things are conference and sectional. We are tied for first in our division, have a realistic opportunity to go 3-0 in conference.”

Coach Meyer on Brown County: “They are a smaller group than a North Putnam or Greencastle, and that puts us more in the game physically. When you see a whole bunch of big guys on the other team, it can take toll on you mentally. Hopefully our guys will be with it right from the kickoff, and play with confidence and a chip on their shoulder.”
