Jackie Leon Porter, 80, passed away at The Waters of Greencastle on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016.

He was born Nov. 10, 1935 in Greencastle to the late James Roy Porter and Charlotte Hazel Eiteljorge.

Jack grew up in Brick Chapel. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1954 and Purdue University in 1958.

He served two years in the U.S. Army, he then returned to Putnam County to raise his family, manage the family farm and after 25 years, retired from IBM.

On Oct. 18, 1957, he married Carol Jean Caywood, and she survives.

He is also survived by five children, Laurie Means (Mike), Anthony (Pam), Chris (Jenni), Patrick, and Julie Gibson (Eric); 15 grandchildren, Corey, Brandon and Mallory Means, Claudia Porter, Erica, Braydon, Bree, Madison and Eli Porter, Garrett, Preston and Briggs Porter and Camryn, Clarissa and Keegan Gibson; five great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Brig. Gen. Charles CV Elia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Virginia Elia, Elsie Twigg and Mary Vanlandingham; one brother, Willliam; two infant grandchildren, Landon and Hadley Porter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed golfing, playing poker and mushroom and pheasant hunting.

Per Jack's wishes, there will be no service but a celebration of his life will be held at the VFW post in Greencastle on Oct. 15 from 2-5 p.m.

Cremation is being handled by Neptune Society.
