17th Annual Coats for Kids collections under way

The Putnam County Youth Development Commission is seeking community support for its 17th annual Coats for Kids Campaign.

New or gently used coats of all sizes from infants all the way through teen years are needed, as well as hats, and mittens or gloves to ensure youngsters are warm during the winter months ahead.

Coats that need to be dry cleaned or are damaged cannot be accepted.

Donations are being accepted at all Putnam County school corporations until Friday, Oct. 14 and at various local businesses until Friday, Oct. 21.

Coats can be dropped off at any of the following locations: All Putnam County school corporations (including Area 30 Career Center and Ivy Tech Community College), Kentucky Fried Chicken, Kroger, Putnam County Public Library, Putnam County Hospital, Putnam County Purdue Extension Office, Putnam County Youth Development Commission Office, Old National Bank and Teachers Credit Union.

Coats for Kids distribution day is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Harris Hall at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in order to receive a coat.

Organizers praised the generosity of the following organizations in making Coats for Kids possible: Ascena Retail Inc., Greencastle Kiwanis, Kappa Delta Phi sorority, Kroger, Purdue Extension/Putnam County Homemaker Clubs, Ray’s Trash Service, United Way of Putnam County and all Putnam County schools.
