PC Public Library seeking bids to demolish new property

Tuesday, October 4, 2016

Director Grier Carson reported that the library officially closed on the house at Walnut Street and College Avenue at a cost of $78,000. He also said that the library is currently seeking bids to demolish it.

“We know what the preferred plan for the use of the property is,” Carson said, “but we still need to have a lengthy discussion about how and when we want to do it.”

Business Operations Manager Lisa Barker reported that about $250,000 remains in the rainy day fund after the purchase of the house.

In other developments:

-- Additional appropriations: The board approved a resolution to move a surplus of $50,000 from this year’s budget into the proposed 2017 rainy day fund.

-- New computer area: Carson reported that the new computer area has been completed.

“Patrons like it a lot,” Carson said. “We’re hearing a lot of feedback; not only because the computer arrangement offers a little more privacy and not only because now we have electrical mounts on all the tables, but because the help desk is right there instead of in the back.”

-- Personnel: The board approved the appointment of Robert Errington as part-time technology assistant.

-- 2017 budget: Carson reported that the proposed funds sit at $975,940 for the general operating fund and $122,000 for the rainy day fund.

The next PCPL Board meeting is set for Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. in the Kiwanis Conference Room.
