The DePauw Jazz Ensemble takes the stage Wednesday with a program of modern jazz derived from such inspirations as Oakland, California, and Cadiz, Spain, as well as imagined colors and mythical monsters. Debuting on this concert will be a new octet formed from members of the band. A recent gift from DePauw alumnus Anthony Minstein has provided the group with many classic arrangements for this unique and intimate instrumentation for jazz ensemble.

Since making his first public appearance at the age of six, Russian-born guest pianist Kirill Gliadkovsky has toured extensively, performing piano and organ recitals and as a soloist with orchestras in Moscow's prestigious Bolshoi, Maliy and Rachmaninoff Halls, St. Petersburg Philharmonic's Glinka Hall, as well as in Italy, U.K., Poland, Mongolia, Canada, Japan and throughout the U.S. For his DePauw recital, he will perform a program of piano favorites, including the Bach-Busoni Chaconne in D Minor, the popular Intermezzo in A Major, Op. 118 by Johannes Brahms, Modest Mussorgsky's famous "Pictures at an Exhibition" and a Prelude and Fugue by Sergei Taneyev.

Music and food are inseparable in Afro-Peruvian culture. Join us at Music on the Square for "Jazz on Tap" when Wasser Brewing Company founder Chris Weeks creates a batch of Peruvian-influenced beer to welcome Gabriel Alegria and his Afro-Peruvian Sextet to Greencastle. As you sample a flight and enjoy small bites, you will experience a unique fusion of Peruvian traditional music and hard-hitting jazz. Proceeds benefit outreach at Music on the Square.
