With early voting in Putnam County opening with a flurry of action, poll workers Judy Miller (above left) and Juanita Austin keep busy as the first round of voters descend on the Putnam County Courthouse Wednesday morning.

A steady stream of voters kept Miller and Austin hopping for the first hour or so after absentee voting officially opened Wednesday morning.

County Clerk Heather Gilbert (standing, above right) said her office is prepared for a busy next four weeks, as high voter turnout is expected nationwide in response to a presidential election almost unprecedented in its contentiousness.

Meanwhile, two of the very first voters (right) cast their ballots at the voting booths.

Early voting is available during regular courthouse hours (8 a.m.-4 p.m.) every Monday through Friday through Monday, Nov. 7, when absentee voting closes at noon. The courthouse will also be open for absentee voting from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 5.

The general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 8.
