North and southbound traffic was stopped Thursday afternoon due to a wreck in the area of 316 N. Jackson St. after a northbound vehicle, waiting to turn west into the West Central Veterinary Services parking lot, was struck from behind by another northbound vehicle attempting to maneuver its way around the lead vehicle’s right side.

Charleen S. Curtis, 63, of Greencastle, who was driving a silver Chrysler Sebring, attempted to pass Jasmine D. Like, 25, of Greencastle (driving a yellow Chevy Spark), while Like was northbound awaiting the opportunity to turn into the veterinary lot.

Happening shortly before 2 p.m., the Greencastle Police Department officially responded to the call at 1:54 p.m. and arrived on scene within minutes as the collision occurred one block south of the police station.

A two-vehicle collision, the lead car seen here, occurred Thursday afternoon on North Jackson Street at approximately 2 p.m.

GPD Officer Nick Eastham controlled the situation while Capt. Chris Jones directed traffic after only five to 10 minutes of a blocked roadway.

No injuries were reported and there was no need for patient transport. However, the Sebring was unable to be driven away from the scene and was towed by Jerry’s Towing Services at 2:26 p.m.

The scene was clear at 2:28 p.m. and traffic resumed to flow freely.
