SUV leaves roadway, strikes house on Plessinger’s Hill
A late-model Chevrolet Tahoe, attempting to avoid stalled traffic while traveling southbound on U.S. 231 just south of Greencastle, left the western side of the roadway on a bend known as Plessinger’s Hill at approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday evening.
Striking the home of Tim and Debrah Mullens, the driver of the ambling vehicle told Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Tom Helmer that the vehicle’s brakes gave way and had no choice but to leave the roadway, leading to the striking of the Mullens’ home, located at 4438 South U.S. 231.
The Tahoe was reported to have been carrying four children and a dog (in addition to the driver) with the aforementioned being transported to Putnam County Hospital with minor injuries.
Debrah Mullen and husband Tim, who moved to the residence just two years prior, voiced that the family of five was inside the house when the incident occurred.
“We felt the bang while we were inside, it shook the whole house,” Mullens said. “The good thing is that everyone is OK. It moved the porch six inches but it could have been a lot worse.”
Dep. Riley Houghton was also on the scene alongside Capt. Helmer controlling the situation. Dep. Houghton reported that Operation Life transported the children to the hospital.
