Amazing Monster Race for Literacy deadline, event set

Greencastle Middle School, located at 400 Percy Julian Dr., will be hosting The Amazing Monster Race for Literacy Night on Friday, Nov. 11 for all GMS students and their families.

Literacy Night hosts more than 200 people each year so registration by Friday, Oct. 28 is required. The event focuses on families traveling around the school, competing in educational activities together so they can earn “literacy dollars” which they can then use for the prize raffle.

Families will complete an activity in each of the following area: social studies, language arts, math, music, physical education and a variety of other activities that include a photo booth.

The event in completely free to GMS families and will include a free meal. Every family will also receive a free book with the entire event being financed through donations.

Schedule of events:

5:45 p.m. -- Monster Meal with a chance to browse the Scholastic Book Fair (fair runs Nov. 7-11)

6:15 p.m. -- Pick-up registration packet

6:30 p.m. -- Race begins

7:30 p.m. -- Race concludes with prize giveaway and Monster Mix goodie bag

Literacy Night will also bring an end to the GMS Book Fair which runs Nov. 7-11. This is the 10th year for this event and another great night is anticipated by many.
