Four county bridge projects are nearing or have reached completion, the Putnam County Commissioners learned Monday morning.

In his bimonthly report to the commissioners, County Highway Supervisor Mike Ricketts gave positive news for the four bridges as cold weather and the end of the build season approach.

The Bridge 76 project on County Road 325 East in Floyd Township is now complete. The crossing of Bledsoe Branch Creek had been closed since mid-August.

On Bridge 42 in southern Franklin Township, concrete work should be done this week. The deck should be installed next week on the structure on County Road 25 West over South Ramp Creek.

The federal aid project to replace Crowe’s Bridge on County Road 100 East over Big Walnut is also progressing. Crews are currently working on approaches to the new bridge.

Additionally, Ricketts reported several hundred dollars in cost to the county had been removed from a change order signed last month regarding the bridge.

Another federal aid project, to replace Bridge 248 in Jackson Township, has reached the phase of work on the deck. Metal for the deck is being installed this week on the structure on County Road 650 East over Big Walnut.

The contractor is planning to pour the deck during the last week of October.

Ricketts also reported that highway crews are currently paving on Meridian Line Road south of Burma Road in Cloverdale Township.

The commissioners agreed that annual material bids for the county highway will be due on Monday, Dec. 5, the date of their first December meeting.

The last order of business regarding the highway included the auction of eight pieces of county highway equipment through Ted Everett Farm Equipment in Monrovia.

The county netted a total of $15,772.50 on the sale of eight items. The items included a Kubota M120 tractor for $5,400, a 1998 International 2574 truck for $3,750, a 1999 Ford F800 for $3,000, an International dump truck with blade for $1,800, a 1997 Ford F250 for $1,450, a Land Pride RCR1872 rotary cutter for $1,400, a Land Pride AT3590 three-spindle mower for $650 and a Tiger boom mower for $75.

The sale made $17,525, minus a 10-percent commission by the seller of $1.752.50.

In other business:

• The commissioners approved turning over the old courthouse clock to the Heritage Preservation Society once the new clock faces are installed on the north and south of the courthouse.

• The United Way of Putnam County was granted approval to place its annual campaign pledge sign on the courthouse lawn.
