Assistant Director Chad Nunley delivered a report on the number of Area 30 Career Center students who will be graduating with dual credits.

A total of 203 graduates will have earned a total of 1,256.5 dual credits, which means $188,833 in parent and student college savings. Most of the credits (660.5) were earned at Ivy Tech, but Vincennes University accounted for 583 and ISU for 13.

“Area 30 Career Center, in partnership with Vincennes University, Ivy Tech Community College and Indiana State University, awards college credits to juniors and seniors who attend Area 30,” Director Lora Busch said. “Students actually generate a college transcript while still in high school. Students can start their college career with a savings.”

In other developments:

-- Claims: The board approved the September claims at a total of $229,707.80, an increase from last month of $10,858.95 and a decrease of $53,966.50 from the March-September average.

-- Early College Assistant Dean: Director Busch announced that Michael Woods has been hired as the early college assistant dean and will start on Oct. 24.

“Another part of his responsibility is to work with all of your students in developing dual credits at your high schools,” Busch said. “The ultimate goal is for students to graduate with 30 college credits. We’re looking forward to having our early college dean in place and really kicking off this program.”

-- Scholarship Fund Golf Scramble: Busch reported that the fourth annual Scholarship Fund Golf Scramble was a success. “This year we almost doubled our funds from last year,” Busch said. “We raised $7,021.24, and all that money will go toward this year’s graduates, education plans as well as career plans and it will be awarded at the Awards Program in May.”

The next Area 30 Career Center School Board meeting will be November 8 at 9 a.m.
